Notice of Vacancy - Little Paxton Parish Coun

Notice is hereby given pursuant to section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that due to the resignation of Councillor Alan Denison there is a vacancy on the Little Paxton Parish Council.

If, within 14 statutory days after the date of this notice, a request for an election to fill the vacancy is made in writing to the Returning Officer, Huntingdonshire District Council, Pathfinder House, Huntingdon PE29 3TN by ten electors of the town an election will be held. If no such notice is given the Parish Council will fill the vacancy by co-option.

Summer Activities in Little Paxton

Little Paxton Parish Council has arranged for fun activities for children during the School Summer Holidays.

On Thursday evenings from 25th July to 22nd August 3rd the Connections Youth Bus will be visiting the village from 7pm - 9pm. The Bus will be parked in the Village hall Car park and is free.

The Bus has game consoles, internet access, tuck shop, crafts, music and lots more and will be manned by two youth workers. Children going into Year 7 and above are welcome on the bus.

Parish Clerk Jenny Gellatly said' This is the 6th year the Connections Bus has been visiting Little Paxton during the school summer holidays and each year it gets more and more popular'.

Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) Lifestyles team will be running activity road shows on 1st & 28th August on the Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field from 1.30pm - 4pm. The sessions are free and are aimed at children 5- 11years old.

Paxfest and Fun Dog Show Saturday 13th July

Little Paxton's annual village fete Paxfest will take place on Saturday 13th July on the Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field, Little Paxton.

For the first time, there will also be a Fun Dog Show at Paxfest with 10 classes including a Championship Class. All the dog classes have been sponsored by local businesses.

The Dog Show classes are Children's Handling (14 years and under) sponsored by Ibex Camping, Puppies under 1 year sponsored by Kingfisher Independent Funeral Services Ltd, Best rescue or rehomed dog/bitch sponsored by a local business, Country sporting dog sponsored by Hire & Buy Group Ltd, Country sporting bitch sponsored by Affinity Hair Designers, Best condition dog/bitch sponsored by Oscar Pet Foods, Best cross bred dog/bitch sponsored by PE19 , most handsome dog sponsored by The Anchor and Prettiest Bitch sponsored by Huntree Fencing Ltd.

The Championship Class is selected from the winner from each of the dog classes and is sponsored by Woof&Brew.

Registration will be on the day and will cost £1.50 per class.

There will be over 30 stalls on the playing field and in the village hall there will be an Art & Craft Exhibition. Exhibitors can bring along home crafts, embroidery, photography, multi media, ceramics, models and paintings (food ,school projects & live plants are excluded) between 9.30am & 11.30am.

Cllr Jean Matheson said 'The entertainment programme includes Mick Ross & Buffalo, Somersham Town Band and Little Paxton School Choir. The School Choir recently performed in the Young Voices Concert at the O2 Arena in London'.

Also new for Paxfest will be a display of vintage tractors. There will approx 12 tractors attending the event and children (grown up or otherwise) will be able to sit on the tractors and see how they work.

Parish Clerk Jenny Gellatly said 'Familiar stalls such a BBQ, refreshments, beer tent, children's races and the Connections Bus will there as well as lots of new stalls. '

In the village hall there will be a craft and painting table for children.

Cllr Su Dean said 'The Fun Dog Show is new for Paxfest and we hope that many families will bring along their pet dogs to take part.'

The new Community Pavilion will be officially opened at Paxest at 12.15pm. After many months of planning by Little Paxton Community Pavilion Group along with well in excess of a hundred man hours by volunteers from Little Paxton Colts Football team, Little Paxton Cricket Club and village residents, the Pavilion is finished.

The event starts at 12 noon and finishes at 5pm.

The weather at last year's Paxfest was awful to the extent that Royston Town Band played 'Singing in the Rain'. This year the Paxfest Committee hope the Somersham Town Band will play 'Bring me Sunshine'.

In the event of bad weather, the event will still go ahead.

Annual Parish Meeting

Little Paxton Parish Council will be holding its Annual Parish meeting on Thursday 18th April at 7pm in the back room of the Little Paxton Village Hall.

The meeting will include reports of the Council's activities during the past twelve months and its plans for the year ahead.

Parish Clerk Jenny Gellatly said 'The Council has had a busy year with the Diamond Jubilee Celebration Tea Party, working with Fields In Trust to dedicate and rename the playing field the Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field and more recently the installation of the new outdoor gym equipment and fitness trail.

Light refreshments will be available

Fit for Fun Field Day- Saturday 13th April

Little Paxton Parish Council has recently installed outdoor gym equipment and a fitness trail on the Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field, Little Paxton.

There are 17 items of gym equipment located between the Multi Use Games Area and the purple/orange youth shelter.
The there are 11 items of fitness trail equipment positioned between the Multi Use Games area and the boundary fencing.

To celebrate the opening of the new equipment, the Council is organising a Fit for Fun Field Day on Saturday 13th April from 10am - 12 noon on the Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field in Little Paxton

This is a community event and the Council would like as many residents of all ages, as possible, to come along and try out all the new equipment.

At any one time over 40 people can use the equipment, as some items are doubled up.

The gym items include a cross country skier, a double air walker, Tai Chi spinners, double rower and a seated leg press. There are items installed for disabled users including an arm and pedal bike and a combination seated chest press with a pull down challenger.
The fitness trail include items such as a seated leg press, 2 side surfers, double sit up boards, triple pull up, leg lift station and a strength trainer.

The gym equipment and fitness trail is available for anyone to use and is aimed at adults, the elderly and those with disabilities.

The official opening will be at 10.30am.

Tea, Coffee and refreshments will be available in the village hall.

Due to the Easter Bank holiday weekend, the Mobile Post Office Van will not be visiting the village on Tuesday 2nd April.

Normal service resumes Thursday 4th April 2pm - 4pm in the village hall car park.
